Politics and Spirit
Until the last two years, I believed my political life to be separate from the other parts of my life. I now see my political activity as basic to my spiritual life. I have felt the values and integrity represented by my country to the world threatened. I feel the pain of so many people, being seen as not American because of skin color, religion, and other factors related to the beauty of a diverse world. I am not happy with resistance. I want transformation of this hate to acceptance of others. And I personally do not want to be hated for who I am or what I stand for. I have learned how hate works and feels in the last two years and from that feel a calling to accompany others experiencing hate. Politics, religion and the rest of my life and values are no longer separate.
